High-Speed Horizontal Machinist

HIGH-SPEED HORIZONTAL MACHINIST

Regular Full-Time

The general daily responsibilities of the Horizontal Machinist include setting up and running prototype and production jobs in a manner that is consistent with Altek’s Quality Standards while utilizing a horizontal machining center. The Horizontal Machinist will follow pre-existing Standard Work Instructions as well as develop new ones per Altek format. This position is responsible for supporting lean manufacturing principles, troubleshooting shop floor issues, training machine operators and fostering teamwork. This role works with a sense of urgency to promote on time delivery and adhere to the goals and expectations as defined by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10-years’ experience in automated production setup and machining

  • Experience with various machine tool controls (G-M Codes & Mazatrol a plus)

  • Experience with set-up and operation of CNC machines, preferably with Horizontal Boring Mills

  • Experience with automated equipment common in a machining environment ie. CNC Horizontal Mills, and Vertical Mills

  • Working knowledge of geometric tolerance, trigonometry and mathematical formulas needed to calculate machining processes.

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software 

  • Experience with PMC/FMS software a plus 

  • Quality conscious attitude and pride of ownership in designated responsibilities

  • Possess comprehensive reading skills

  • Possess mathematical skills necessary for industry skill set

  • Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbal 

  • Intermediate computer skills

  • Must have a reasonably complete set of personal tools. 

Process Technician

PROCESS TECHNICIAN

The Process Technician is responsible for the setup, start-up, and troubleshooting of the injection molding process. The Process Technician should work with a sense of urgency to promote on-time deliveries and shortened setup times.  Coordinates with Material Handlers to ensure that part to part internal setup time is minimized.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Effectively communicate with personnel to determine scheduling priorities and next job to be set-up per supervisor’s direction. Quickly resolve scheduling and resource conflicts. Keep the schedule boards current at all times. 

  • Minimize machine idle time by starting teardown schedule immediately after the last part off the previous production run is complete.  Tear-down previous production run.  Place teardown items neatly in aisle or non-obstructive area, returning to their designated homes for storage prior to next part startup.

  • Proactively drive process improvements & data accuracy.  Institutionalize improvements through updating the MO.O., SWI, E-card, and data pack.   Capture all improvements with handwritten notes, and turns notes into Process Engineer, for retention of electronic master copy.  

  • Troubleshoot in-progress production runs as necessary to minimize scrap and optimize part quality and cycle times.

  • Maintain a positive outlook and treats co-workers with respect and professionalism.

MACHINE OPERATOR - MOLDING

The Machine Operator is responsible for the operation of a variety of plastic molding machines. This role will handle and remove machine parts as needed, inspect for conformance to quality standards, perform value-added processes when necessary, and record data and package part(s) for shipment or next step in manufacturing process

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Use Altek's ERP system (MAPICs) to correctly and consistently input production data.

  • Use light power tools correctly and safely.

  • Operate and maintain plastic injection molding machines; ensuring continuity of product.

  • Inspect, prepare and package manufactured goods for shipment to customer.

  • Must pay close attention to detail when reading, writing or completing all work documentation.

  • Adhere to Altek’s Vision, Core Values and Quality Policy, to ensure quality to customers, internal and external.

PRODUCTION FINISHER

The Production Finisher is responsible for setting up and executing assembly functions such as insert installation, fastening, bonding and spot welding, part marking, masking, sanding, measuring consistent with Altek’s Quality Standards.  This role follows a pre-existing Standard Work Instructions as well new instructions as established by the company. This position evaluates and troubleshoots issues; assists in the training as needed of department processes and other duties as assigned. Work is done in a modestly fast pace in a fun team environment with the goal of creating products to not only meet but exceed our customer’s needs.

MOLD MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Mold Maintenance Technician works in a team environment to ensure that molds are maintained, repaired, and improved. A good mechanical aptitude, machining skills and a can do attitude are a must for this position. Understanding Mold Construction is required.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate the condition of molds and be prepared to make recommendations and repairs.

  • Must be able to understand Mold Designs both 2D and 3D.

  • Maintain work place in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Build and maintain a positive rapport with other employees.

  • Interact and assist the Mold Shop Technicians on problem solving related to the molds.

  • Interact and assist the Toolmakers on repairs and process improvements.

The Maintenance Journeyman is responsible for maintaining a variety of industrial machinery and plant equipment. Employee filling this position needs to be a dependable, flexible professional that performs well both independently or as part of a team and must maintain an excellent safety and attendance record. QAULIFICATIONS:

  • AA Degree, Apprenticeship/Journeyman Certification or Military experience in field of expertise (i.e. welding, mechanic or electrician)

  • AWS/WABO Welder

  • Strong maintenance skills and knowledge pertaining to preventative and predictive machinery maintenance

  • Experience in facilities maintenance

  • Skilled in weld repair and fabrication

  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and conduct periodic maintenance

  • Follow company’s safe work practices

CNC LATHE OPERATOR

The CNC Lathe Operator is responsible for following prescribed standards of CNC operations, beginner set-ups of established processes and meeting cycle times of those processes in the machine shop.  The Lathe Operator must be able to meet standards set forth in our AS9102/ISO metrics plan concerning quality, cost, and delivery.  Should have knowledge of and be responsible for supporting lean manufacturing principles and teamwork throughout the company. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the procedures set forth in the work instructions or by the Supervisor and/or Lead(s).

INVENTORY TECHNICIAN

Stages all necessary consumable items needed to conduct the production run, including raw materials, inserts, and sub-components. Coordinates with Paint Supervisor (Paint) is responsible for staging all non-consumables to ensure that Paint Dept. setup-time is minimized. The duties are not limited to this list. Any additional requirements, changes or deletions will be at the discretion of the Warehouse Manager.

ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 6 months experience as a product handler or similar role

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to organize and prioritizes job issues

SCREW MACHINE OPERATOR

Come join our team and work in a clean, climate controlled, highly efficient machine shop!  We offer full benefits at the first of the month following hire.  Responsible for running of “CITIZEN” CNC Screw-machine for both new and existing programs. FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Run new and proven processes on our “CITIZEN” CNC Screw-machine.

  • Use blueprint reading, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and calculating to perform daily functions.

  • Use measuring devices accurately and competently to perform proven processes.

  • Stay informed of and apply Altek’s current procedures for staging and running of all proven processes.

  • Follow the procedures set forth in the work instructions or by the supervisor.  Use safe and standard machining practices

  • Adhere to Altek’s Vision, Mission, Core values and quality policy to ensure quality to customers, both internal and external.

MACHINIST - OPERATOR

General daily responsibilities include setting up and running prototype and production jobs in a manner that is consistent with Altek’s Quality Standards. Will follow pre-existing Standard Work Instructions as well as develop new ones per Altek format.   Trouble shooting shop floor issues and training machine operators will also be part of the Machinist’s responsibility.   Will often work with others to plan and achieve goals set by Supervisors and Management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-years experience or equivalent in automated production setup and machining 

  • Experience with manual and automated equipment & controls common to machining environment 

  • Able to effectively work with various individuals and departments in a team environment

  • Able to effectively interpret blueprints

  • Proficiency in the use of inspection tools 

  • Certificate of Completion in Machine Technology course (preferred) and High School Degree or GED

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software will be a plus

  • Quality conscious attitude and pride of ownership in designated responsibilities
